Fix My Google Business Profile

Not a shop.
A record.

Your Google Business Profile isn't a listing anyone browses — it's the record that decides whether your business appears at all when someone searches "near me". No product, no price. Just the name, category, hours, services and photos that decide whether they call.

Illustrative example — not a customer result ABC Plumbing & Heating

The business name will get this profile suspended — fix that before anything else on the page.

1
Name carries a tagline and a location

"ABC Plumbing & Heating | Emergency Plumber Manchester | 24/7 Boiler Repair" is explicitly prohibited — strip it to the real name.

2
Category is "Contractor"

Too broad; loses the "plumber near me" search a specific category would win outright.

Corrected business name

ABC Plumbing & Heating

Made up for this page to show the shape of the output. Not a real report and not a customer result.

Relevance
Category first, description last

Google weighs your primary category above everything else — a perfect description with the wrong category still fails.

Distance
Not editable, but service area is

A service-area business claiming the whole country undermines both credibility and this signal — Google suggests roughly a two-hour radius.

Prominence
Links, reviews, activity

Google names review volume and responses as ranking actions — an unanswered review or a stale profile costs you here.

A completeness audit,
not sales copy.

The description field is the lowest-weight thing on the profile. The report scores what Google actually weighs: compliance, category, structured fields, and activity — in that order.

A cut-paper illustration: a scalloped shop awning seen flat on, a card below it ruled with seven evenly spaced blank lines, and a teardrop map pin beside the card.

Suspension check

Name, address and duplicate-profile risks flagged first — a suspended profile ranks nowhere.

Category + structure

Category correctness, services, attributes and hours scored against what customers actually search.

Top up once, then top up again when your balance runs low. Fix My Google Business Profile is about 28p — never more than 40p and spends only what a finished report costs; unused store credit stays ready for another job. A change is another go at the job, so it costs pence too.

This isn't a shop listing — what am I actually pasting?

Your current profile as text: business name, category, hours, description, and the services you've listed. There's no product and no price here — the profile is a database record that decides whether your business shows up in local search at all.

Why does a keyword in my business name matter so much?

Because Google explicitly bans it, and it's the single most common self-inflicted suspension in local search. If your name carries a tagline, location, or service ('Smith Plumbing | Emergency Plumber Manchester'), the report leads with that risk before anything else, because a suspended profile outranks nothing.

Can it get me to the top of local search?

No, and it won't claim to. Google states plainly there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking — the report can only make the profile itself relevant, complete and compliant, which are the things Google says it actually weighs.

Will it write my reviews or a review-request script?

No, never. Incentivised, family, or staff reviews are banned by Google's own policy and by UK law since April 2025. It will only tell you your review operations are weak and what compliant review-asking looks like — it never drafts the review or the ask.

What does it actually cost?

Top up once, then top up again when your balance runs low. Fix My Google Business Profile is about 28p — never more than 40p and spends only what a finished report costs; unused store credit stays on your balance for another job. A change costs pence like any other run.
